La Dany.

Royal Ontario Museum. Sunday, May 30. 12:30pm. (WORLD PREMIERE)

La Dany is an intimate portrait of Dany Casta’o Quintero, a transvestite street performer from Medellín, Colombia. For more than 20 years, Dany has entertained the crowds that gather in Bolívar Park every Sunday following evening mass. Xtra videographer Michael Pihach spoke with Jim Giles, the film’s co-director/writer/producer.

Regretters.
Buddies In Bad Times Theatre. Sunday, May 23, 5:30pm.

Regretters is a controversial new gender-bending documentary by Marcus Lindeen. The film profiles two men who had sex-change operations only to realize that being a woman wasn’t the answer they were looking for. Xtra sat down with the director to talk about the film and the reaction from the trans community:

I Am Love.

Isabel Bader. Thursday, May 27. 7pm.

I Am Love tells the story of the wealthy Recchi family, whose lives are undergoing sweeping changes. In the clip below, Toronto International Film Festival (TIFF) programmer Noah Cowan and actor/producer Tilda Swinton sat down in September 2009:

Royal Ontario Museum. Saturday, May 22. 7:30pm.

Topp Twins offers a look into the lives of the world’s only comedic, country singing, dancing, and yodeling lesbian twin sisters. Comedian Elvira Kurt chats with New Zealand’s Linda and Jools Topp in our clip below:

Eyes Wide Open.
Isabel Bader. Monday, May 24. 9:15pm.

On occasion, the number of editors and other staff who contribute to a story gets a little unwieldy to give a byline to everyone. That’s when we use “Xtra Staff” in place of the usual contributor info. If you would like more information on who contributed to a particular story, please contact us here.
